It seems like the headline that just won’t go away. Wind and waves continue to batter Florida’s Atlantic Coast, thanks to relentless east wind. What started Sunday in Jacksonville as a “nor’easter” has moved south as a Tropical Wave, and now beaches from Melbourne to Miami are taking a beating. And it will likely get more intense Wednesday night and Thursday in some areas before conditions improve.
Marine conditions will be hazardous for all of South Florida, as near shore waves grow to 8 to 10 feet, and seas just offshore could be as high as 14 feet. There is also a high risk for rip currents through Thursday. The tropical wave is forecast to move across the southern part of the peninsula Thursday and weaken as it drifts north on Friday.
The heaviest rain totals from this system are likely to fall along the I-95 corridor, where 1 to 3 inches are expected in most areas, with locally higher amounts possible.
